High 8?

Today I found out that I'm going to have to wait until Wednesday to continue my attempt of printing my zombie girl, because the workshop manager still isn't back from her vacation.
I'm a bit pissed, because I would have prepared some other stuff for screen printing, if I had known about that earlier.
Also I'm still not sure about printing any artbook, it feels like it's not worth the effort.
I guess I'm a bit down right now, since nothing seems to work out.

But I've still been working on a little drawing (there's no such thing like "too many sewn hands"):

I was planning to print some more postcards. I guess this would make a good one, so maybe I manage to prepare some more images and start printing postcards tomrrow. It's still better than just waiting for Wednesday to come.

Auf der Jagd nach meiner Seele [UPDATE]

[UPDATE: I exchanged the last image because it didn't really go with the other pictures drawing style. I guess the new one looks better.]

Here comes the complete illustartion (The biginning is different from my former post, because I had to switch some images to another place).
It's based on the poem "Auf der Jagd nach meiner Seele" by Gerhart Hauptmann
Seems like he got a Nobel Prize in literature, but I can't find that poem anywhere on the net. I guess it's not public domain, so I won't type it down here.
I think my illustartions don't actually need the text to be understood...I just would have found it nice to share the poem, since I like it a lot. :\

(Btw.: This way of presenting the pictures kinda sucks. But I still don't know if I want to make an arbook of it.)

There's no time for fussing and fighting my friend

Seems like I have to wait until next week before I can get my zombie print finished.
As I said, I was working for hours to prepare the picture for printing, but then I had to realize that that was all for nothing, because the raster in the background dind't fit. You could see the lines where the picture was stuck together. But at least I was able to print the red layer for the picture.
Today I went to get the model picture printed out in one piece (which cost a little bit of money) but when I started screen printing I saw that the screen was damaged and I had to throw away 4 out of 13 prints, because they had black marks on them.
Now I have to wait until the workshop manager is back from her vacation, so she can give me a new (and hopefully better) screen.
I'm pretty pissed, because so much went wrong...also I'm very impatient, I like to get my work finished quickly.

Anyway, right now I can't do much about it, so I planned to do another illustration of a poem, which I read today.

Now I'm off to work!

A smile on the lips and a hole in the head

Now I decided to print that zombie girl anyway (it's going to be about 70 x 100 cm, as I planned), because while trying to draw something better I gave up. That picture is actually the best I can do for now.
Yesteday I prepared the drawing for screen printing and it was an odyssey! I had to devide the picture into 6 pieces and then stick them together, which isn't easy when you have a raster in the background and the paper for the model is skewed. So I hat to fiddle about it for a while. But I finally managed to put everything together in the right way...at least I think I did, because I didn't start printing yesterday, since it took some hours to put the picture together.
I hope it's going to turn out okay in the end.

So while I'm working on my big print, you may look at this:

Eye contact

Yesterday I found this large picture frame (it's 70 x 100 cm) in the storage at my uni. I bought it 2 or 3 years ago for the open days to present some linocut of mine. Since then I had no use for it and now that I pulled it out of the storage and placed it in my studio, I'm eager to print something equally big.
I was thinking of a zombie, but I can't come up with anything I find worth printing.

This is the first "tryout zombie", which I drew today:

Btw.: Still no idea for the artbook concept. :\

The destruction of mankind

As I said, I had this idea for an artbook about blood and its meaning throughout the history of mankind. Today I started going through some ideas for a concept.
I started reading a new book and doing some research on this subject. The book I'm reading starts with the usage and meaning of blood in ancient egypt.
So my first intetion was to do chronological drawings following historical events. I gave that up very soon, because it's just too much and the pictures wouldn't really connect, because the only thing they'd have in common would be blood.
Then I thought of only drawing pictures of religious rituals or mythologies that are concerned with blood.
Because of the book I'm reading, I came up with ideas for drawings about egyptian mythology.
First I wanted to draw the god Seth who helps battling Apophis (some kind of evil snake) every night so the sun can rise every morning. But then I read about the "Destruction of Mankind", which is a story about the godess Sakhmet (who is displayed with the head of a lion). People on earth were plotting against the sun-god Ra, so when he got wind of that, he sent Sakhmet to earth to destroy mankind. She starts slaying people and drinking their blood. But then Ra feels pity for the people and makes Sakhmet drunk with some kind of mock blood, so she eventually becomes peaceful again.

I drew this picture, but I also ditched the idea of mythologies for an artbook concept, because the pictures would be flooded with confusing symbolism.
This means I still don't have a concept...but I have this picture for you:

Now I thought of sticking to blood and medicine as a subject for the artbook, we'll see how that works out...

Your houseplant scorns you

I redrew my Misanthropic Cactus some weeks ago and today I finally printed it.
Working during semester break is the best, no one's in the studio to bother me. :)

ffuts koobhctekS

It's been a little while...
Sorry I'm currently only showing drawings from my sketchbook, but I haven't had the time and the nerves to do something different.
Today was the 5th day of the preparation for the open days at my uni.
On Monday we had to clear our studios, paint the walls and clean everything up. On Tuesday and yesterday we were fighting about who is going to show what kind of work in which place.
And today everyone went berserk. People were arguing and screaming at each other, because a lot of people from my class didn't show up at the right times and so the others (including me) had to do their work for them.
On Saturday and Sunday I'm going to have to invigilate the exhibition in my class (only for 3 hours though).
I'm so tired right now. I only want this week to be over.
