Rattenkönig

Yeeeeeeeees! I found a Photoshop CS2 students edition in my mothers office yesterday and it actually runs on my notebook, so no more fighting with Corel Painter (altough I have to admit that it's not that bad, once you get used to it).
So good news, but kinda late, because I'm going to leave my parents place very soon.

Anyway...not only did I find CS2 yesterday, I also went to see an exhibition about self-portraits and selfies in the State Art Gallery Karlsruhe, which I found quite okay.
Later that day my mother managed to crash her router, so I didn't have internet = I was bored to death, so I did some selfies, too:

I don't know why I'm always having that evil look on my face... :D

After being done with my selfies I came up with something different:

When I started at the university of the arts I did quite a lot of drawings and prints of rat kings, since I'm a fan of dark fairytales and strange looking animals...I just love the idea of these creatures.

And that's all I did yesterday...

The best of yesterday

I'm still trying to deal with Corel Painter...I guess my notebook just isn't fit for any graphic software. :\
So here's something old, just so you don't get bored:

Rage against the machine

I'm still at my parents house trying not to die from boredom.
Today I managed to install Corel Painter on my notebook, which has a really bad grphic board and this means my drawing tablet doesn't work fluently...so I was fiddling about (for an hour or so), trying to find out how to use this damn software.
This is what I managed to draw (and I still don't get this stupid, fucking program):

I actually planned to work on Glowworm while I'm visiting my parents, but I guess I'm going to have to wait until I'm back home... :(
But I'm going to keep trying to find out how to use Corel Painter. Maybe I'll be able to master this shit in a few days (what are the odds!).

Hit 'em right between the eyes

I'm going to visit my parents for Christmas, so I guess I won't be able to upload anything in the next time. Though I'll try to get that stupid Corel Painter to run on my notebook at my parents place, so I won't go mad due to a lack of work. :D

This is a little present for everyone who dislikes Christmas just as much as I do:

Happy holidays.

Brothers Grimm [5]

Now that I'm done with this project I'm going to have to face a problem: what's next? :(

Anyway, here comes the artbook (yup, it's called "fairy tale death"...sounds better in German):
(I guess I don't need to point out all its flaws to you...)
[screenprint, edition of 20 booklets, about 21 x 29,7 cm]

The tales I illustrated are: 1. "Märchen von einem, der auszog, das Fürchten zu lernen"
2. "Der singende Knochen" 3. "Der singende Knochen"
4. "Der gelernte Jäger" 5. "Der Räuberbräutigam"
6. "Die drei Schlangenblätter" 7. Dornröschen"
8. "Der singende Knochen" 9. "Märchen von einem, der auszog, das Fürchten zu lernen"

Working

Yesterday I started printing the artbook, but as I said, there's a lot of peole working there right before Christmas. So again, I had to work rather late in the evening, which is pretty exhausting. I thought of going to the studio this evening, too, because I'm afraid, that there'll be people working on their prints even on Saturday and Sunday.
I really don't feel like doing this every evening...

So since I can't work in the studio in the daytime, I'm killing some time with drawing other stuff:

Brothers Grimm [4]

Sooooo...there's going to be 9 illustrations after all. :D
Also I decided what to put on the artbook's cover.

Tomorrow I'm going to prepare my screen for printing and hope that I'll mange to finish the booklet before Christmas. Usually there's a lot of people in the studio at this time of the year, because everyone want's to print some last minute Christmas presents. This means that one has to wait a lot of time to get started. :\

Anyway, here's something for you to look at, while I'm working.
It's from "Dornröschen" / "Sleeping Beauty":

Brothers Grimm [3]

Today I finished picture No. 8 and I feel like that's enough for the artbook, since there are a bunch of similar death scenes in those tales...a lot of drowning and beating. There was one tale, where someone is dismembered, but I couldn't think of a way to draw that so it would go with the other pictures and not look too much like the 6th one. :\
So I guess, I'll leave it to 8 illustrations. I just don't have any idea for the cover yet.

Anyway, heres the one I finished just now. It's from "Der singende Knochen"/ "The Singing Bone":

Brothers Grimm [2]

Just now I finished the 6th picture (my fingers start to hurt) for my artbook and I already have to sort out one of the drawings. By now I think it's going to have less than 12 illustrations...but we'll see.
The 5th and 6th picture turned out pretty good...at least by my standarts.
I hope I'll manage to keep up that quality, because I tend to mess stuff up right before the end.

Here comes my 6th drawing, it's from "Der Räuberbräutigam" / "The Robber Bridegroom":

Brothers Grimm

Finally I came up with an idea for a new artbook project.
I reread some tales, collected by the Brothers Grimm, and since there are so many death scenes described in those tales, I decided to illustrate some of them and make a booklet of that (screenprint & hand bound, of course).
By now I did 12 very rough sketches and finished drawing 2 of them. I don't know if I'll use all of the 12 pictures (maybe I'll even draw some more).
So while I'm working on that (I guess it's going to be a shitload of work, and it's going to take for ever to finish this project, because of my upcoming diploma in January), I don't know if I'm going to upload a lot of stuff here.

But to keep anyone who reads this blog entertained, here's the first picture, which I finished for the artbook (at least I think it's finished [I thought of adding some colour in some place], I hope I won't have to redraw everything in the end).

It's from "Märchen von einem, der auszog, das Fürchten zu lernen" or in English: "The story of the youth who went forth to learn what fear was"
Yup, that guy kills cats.

Also, sorry for not working on the Glowworm story, but this artbook is more important to me right now.

More fan art

The Curse of Monkey Island = best computer game ever :)

So since I can't come up with anything good of my own, here's some more fan art:

Running out of ideas...again.
I'm too frustrated to come up with anything good.

Lame title [updated]

*Update: I modified the heads a bit, because they didn't quite fit to its body. I guess, it looks better now.

Here comes my birdie (although it still has some flaws) :

...and yes, that's a kitschy heart in the middle.

Sun

I actually wanted to redraw a two headed Ara, something which I started in May and then I just left it unfinished, because I wasn't satisfied with it.
But instead of that bird I did this digital drawing. The idea just popped up in my head, and it wanted to get out:

Yup, it looks a lot like the drawings in The Siren. Don't know if that's bad...

Anyway...I'm off to work on my Ara now. I hope it'll turn out better than the last time I tried.
