Über den Wolken

I still need some more sleep...I don't know why I keep waking up too early in the morning. :\

Anyway...since I had so much time this morning, I decided to organize this blog a bit more. I chose to use labels for my posts, so you don't have to look through the whole blog, if you're searching for something particular. But I didn't finish labelling all the posts today, I still need some more key words.

Plus I had a new idea for one more picture for the "cephalopods" chapter of the artbook I'm working on. I sill have to come up with at least 4 more pictures though. And they need to be upright format for a change. :/

I think this time the clouds aren't looking like shrubbery...more like deformed bike saddles. lol

Bursting with joy

I still didn't get any rest, because I have to go to uni (semester break will start in 2 weeks), but I tried to get started with my work again by doing this little drawing:

I think I'm going to add it to the pictures I'm putting in my linocut artbook.

...And now I'm going to fall asleep on my keyboard.

Lächeln und winken

So I was at the Comic Con...and it was exhausting. I'm still tired as hell!

On Saturday and Sunday I got up at about 6 am and then I was at the convention from about 7:30 am to 6 pm. I was sitting at my table almost all the time, so I didn't get to see much of what was going on, except for the other illustrators around me, who were presenting their own work.
I didn't know sitting could be that straining! I felt hungry and thirsty all the time although I was eating and drinking sufficiently. On Sunday morning my whole body was shaking when I woke up, because I was so tired from being at the convention all day long on Saturday.
Now I think my table wasn't placed too badly, but it was very loud from some stage near my table and then there were hundreds of visitors of course, so in the end my head rang from all the sensory overload (and I think other people felt the same way, because there was just too much to see). Also unfortunately all the noise made it almost impossible to get in touch with peoople interested in my work. I had to talk to them very loudly and I couldn't really concentrate on what I was going to say. :\
But it was still fun to see all the cosplayers and the other artists work.
Plus I even sold some stuff (not very much though! 7 artbooks and some postcards, unfortunately not a single T-shirt). Still there were some nice people, who were (and hopefully still are)  interested in my work and able to value it. :)
So I wouldn't want to miss the experience.
But maybe comic conventions are not the right place for me. People who go there are just not looking for work like mine.
I think most of them are expecting to see predominantly this Anime/Manga/Fantasy stuff (and that's what most of the other artists there were showing) and sadly they want to buy that kind of art for much less then what it's actually worth (I think they can't imagine how much effort most of the artists are putting in their work), so artist have to cut their prices too much. But there were also illustrators who sold their work for almost nothing (like one poster of the size 42 x 29 cm for 5 bucks or so) and others who were pissed at them, since to the visitors their average prices appeared to be very high in contrast to those dumping prices.

Enough of the critique of capitalism. :D Here are some shaky photos from the Comic Con (I didn't take many because there were a lot of people around, blocking my view).

Here's my table:

And this is me, sitting at my table and laughing my ass off (though I don't even remember what I was laughing about) [my friend, who helped me took the photo]:

This is the view of about 1/3 of the hall, were the Comic Con took place. I took this about 15 minutes before it was closing on Sunday, so that's why there aren't that many people around on the photo.

Now I have to get some rest and then get off my ass and get busy again!
I'm still not finished with the second chapter of my book, plus I have to finish cutting the lino plate for this picture for the other artbook:

◎_◎

Today I'm going to travel to Stuttgart and I hope everything will go well at the Comic Con!
Also I found a way to take some photos there, my mother gave me her old smartphone (my own mobile is so old, it doesn't even have a camera).

Next update: probably on Monday!

Bye!

Gebüsch

"Shrubbery" is the word my tattooist used when he talked about some clouds in one of my drawings. ಠ_ಠ
Now I know I'm not good at drawing clouds, so I drew more shrubbery [thinking of it: Ni!] instead:

I'm currently a bit lazy and I don't like the Photoshop version I have to use when I'm at my parents place, because it doesn't work as fluently as the one installed on my computer at home.
So that's why there's not much work going on over here. >__>"
Also I didn't pack my camera, because it's too big and heavy, thus I still have to find a way to take some photos at the Comic Con this weekend!

A little unnerved

I'm off to see my parents for one week and on the 25th + 26th I'm going to be at the Comic Con in Stuttgart! I'm already excited and I hope, I didn't forget to pack anything.

I don't know how much I'll be drawing and uploading here during the next week, so here's the latest picture for my book for you to look at, until I come up with something new:

Brainbox

This is actually a drawing I just did for the linocut artbook, where it's only going to be in red and black, but I also wanted to see how it would look like fully coloured, so here you go:

Ich will ein Glücksbärchi sein...

Here comes one of the finished prints of my teddy bear:

The paper is 21 x 29,7 cm and the print is just a tryout, that's why it's not quite in the middle of the paper sheet. I used water based lino printing paint, so I still have to find a way to make the prints water resistant, maybe with some kind of spray varnish.

I still didn't really get on with the drawings for the second chapter of my book.
The last drawing I finished is this one:

Yesterday I actually started and finhed the 4th picture, but today I decided I'll have to redraw the whole thing, because it looks too rough and simple. :\

Nebensache

Today I started a side project, because I'm not really getting on with the second chapter of my book. Also some device in the printing studio broke and the workshop manager still isn't back, so it won't be fixed anytime soon, thus I can't work there now anyway.

The project I started is about making a booklet filled with small linocuts (I don't know how many pages it's going to have yet).
The pictures are going to have two layers of paint, red and black.
I didn't do any linocut in a long time, so I forgot how much my back always hurts while working and that I sometimes slip and end up having cuts all over my hand and fingers.

Here's the printing block which I started today. I only managed to finish the one for the black layer of paint, because I stopped working when I couldn't take the pain in my back anymore.

Here you can see the drawing for the red layer, too. The teddy bear is going to have red eyes.

And this is what the first block looks like after I printed it. It's about 12 x 14 cm.

Plus a photo of my maltreated left hand. :D

Nom nom nom

I decided to redo that other woman + octopus drawing for my book:

This evening I also started the third picture for this chapter, but now I'm stuck, because I don't know what to do with its background.
Maybe I'll find some inspiration tomorrow, but right now I'm too tired to come up with anything good.

Racking my brain

Only four more pages to print until I'm done with the first chapter of my book!

Here are some photos of what I did today:

I already messed up one page (the layers of paint were not overlapping in one place where they should have), but I was able to fix it.

Plus I came up with 3 more ideas for the next chapter, but I have to admit that they're more or less old ideas recycled. For example the woman with the squid on her head. But I wanted to do a better version of it anyway.
I haven't started drawing those pictures yet and I still need to come up with at least five more ideas...hmmm... :\

Friday 3 June 2016

Ô_o

Tomorrow I'm going to start printing the first chapter of my book. The workshop manager will be gone for two weeks, so I hope everything will go well and I won't be needing her help.

Today I already started with a drawing for the next chapter, it will be "cephalopods".
I think it's going to be difficult to come up with so many different pictures, which are all dealing with the same animal species. :\

Mäh

Here are some impressions from my exhibition:
[Klick for full view.]

The Zoingos were the first thing you saw when entering the gallery.

The Zombunny was on the opposite wall of the one where I placed the Brainwafer.

And here's the "Untot" artbook!

Yippie Yippie Yeah

Now my exhibition is over! But everything went well and I'm happy some nice people showed up to take a look at my work. :)
I didn't take any photos yet, but I will do that tomorrow, before I'm moving my stuff from the gallery back to my workplace.

I also worked a bit more on the first chapter of my book, but I'm still not done yet, because I was too occupied and tired from uni and taking care of the exhibition during the past three days.
